There is never enough money to do what we want to do. For the last 2 years our school has been the recipient of a $10,000 grant that has allowed us to do a wonderful job with transition activities for 6th grade students. This year we did not apply for the grant and now I am regretting it. Therefore, I am on a quest to find additional grant monies to fund some of our transition activities.
Have you ever written a grant? Think of it this way. You assess your students to determine what they need. After that you write a prescription to meet their needs...diagnostic and prescriptive. So are grants. You determine your problem and what you need to resolve it. The funding gives you the resources to work your plan. You then monitor your progress and determine if your action steps were successful in attaining your goal.
If you need money and want to try your hand at grantwriting, visit www.grantwrangler.com. There are a million sites where money can be found; this is just the beginning. Grantwriting, however, is not for the squeamish at heart. You must be willing to take the time to monitor, reviewn and revise. "Have a need, fill a need."
