Are there just some words that you feel all students should know. I mean, let's face it, our vocabulary or use of words tells people a lot about us. Many of our kids are in deficit because their code is locked due to their limited voacbulary development. One post talked about Bringing Words To Life as a method of enriching vocabulary instruction. We have looked at word webs and other vocab strategies, but there is so much left to do. In Miss Alaineus Debra Frasier takes a light hearted approach to vocabulary and the enjoyment of interacting with words.
This is what I want from us. As a school, for a 2 week period I want us to focus on the same words. Great Words...words that have multiple meanings...words that can be used across content areas, but words that the students can make a part of their vocabulary. What are those words? What words are important to our students' development and why...only 20. You choose one, tell me why and let's see if your word makes the list.

How about exponetial? It's a math and/or science function but it also has descriptive functions in ELA.
I tried so hard and spelled it wrong anyway as I typed. EXPONENTIAL. Sheesh.
