THEY like it TOO!

The PACTis a book about 3 friends who survived against the odds. They collectievly set goals and held one another accountable. Many of the children we serve do not enjoy reading because they struggle with it. Many of them have a difficult time findng anything that pigues their interest. When our urban high school children started inundating me with questions about our Book of the Month, I was thrilled. Since so many said, the kids are really not into that, I thought maybe the research I had read was wrong. Well guess what...OUR KIDS LOVE IT!!!! They are stopping by me in the hallways or talking to me during lunch asking questions about the book....Ms. Wright did you really choose the book for us.....Ms. Wright, do you think if we write to them they will write back......Ms. Wright, can I borrow your book? I had a parent who had conferenced with me before Open House who saw the book on my desk. Her daughter is enjoying the book so much, she wants to read it for herself. Go figure that. The PACT is more than a read aloud, it is a book reminding our children that if these three young men did it, so can they. No adversity is too great to overcome. Our children need us. They need to hear us remind them that we are proud of them and we believe in them. Some do not have parents at home to tell them they can make it...they can be a productive part of society. But WE have influence. They respect us and they respect our opinion. We can make a difference with them.
